Modular offices and modular buildings can serve as valuable extra space for your business or organization.
But keeping them clean and maintaining them is of the utmost importance.
Modular office buildings can serve as a forward point of contact for sales or service staff.
Modular office booths can give you the ability to set up office spaces in places where you just don’t have a permanent structure available to fulfill that need.
But here’s the most important thing to remember:
Modular office spaces are still buildings. And as such, they still require a certain level of cleaning and maintenance to keep them in tip-top shape, and to enhance their performance over time.
Let’s dive in and talk about how to keep your booth clean and maintained, in 5 easy steps.
How To Keep Your Booth Clean: 5 Daily Cleaning Tips
As a general rule, you should deep-clean your modular office booth about once per year.
There are also basic cleaning tasks that you should see to at least once per week; and some (like Covid cleaning) that you should make sure are done every day.
A quick inspection of your structure should quickly reveal what does and doesn’t need to be cleaned.
You should also work to maintain the booth at least once per year, and perform seasonal inspections to check for damage.
Here are the most important steps to take as you seek to make sure that this process goes off without a hitch.
1. Wipe Down The Surfaces
Every modular in plant office, cubicle booth, and/or exterior vestibule is going to have surfaces to clean.
This could mean desks, workspaces, office chairs, and other furniture.
Implant modular offices can get dusty, dirty, and grimy from the residue of your plant or workspace environment.
So for this reason, it’s imperative that you keep all interior surfaces wiped down, cleaned, and sanitized.
How To Clean Your Workspace
Clean your workspace with a microfiber rag, cloth, duster, broom, and mop.
Use the microfiber rag and the duster to clean up dust. Then, sweep the floor to make sure that all debris is removed and disposed of.
Next, wet your rag with hot water and a cleaning agent, and start wiping down surfaces.
Some surfaces may require window cleaner, or some other type of specialized cleaner.
Choosing the proper cleaner is an important part of the job. Use general janitorial guidelines to make sure that you’re using the right types of cleaners effectively.
Then, use a mop to make sure that the floor is clean.
How To Clean Your Office Desk
To clean your office desk, first organize the contents sitting on top of it. Throw away any extra trash. Then, use a microfiber rag to wipe away any dust or loose dirt.
Then, use a material-appropriate surface cleaner to scrub away any grime or residue stuck to the surface.
Finish it off with some furniture polish (if the material is suitable for such a product), and leave it to dry.
How to Sanitize the Booth In Light of Covid-19 And Other Germs
The Covid-19 pandemic has brought about the need for businesses, schools, government facilities, and even private facilities to make sure that cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting is done correctly—either on a daily basis, or sometimes even multiple times per day.
You can view the CDC guidelines on cleaning, disinfecting, and ventilation for schools and businesses here.
You can also view this page to see specific CDC guidelines for workplace and business Covid-19 protocols, which were created in partnership with OSHA to help mitigate and prevent the spread of Covid 19.
If you’re currently using your portable booth as part of a modular hospital, one of several modular medical buildings, a fever screening kiosk, etc. Then you may need to deploy even more stringent cleaning, sanitizing, and safety precautions.
For in-depth instructions on how to follow OSHA’s standards for Covid-19 cleaning, sanitation, and disease prevention, check out this CDC guideline page.
If your booth utilizes a hand sanitizer holder with sanitizer spray, you’ll also want to make sure that these are refilled, cleaned, maintained, and sanitized as well.
2. Clean The Walls
Whether you’re using your booth as a temporary vestibule, a modular guard house, or a construction booth, you’re still going to want to make sure that you clean the interior walls.
The exact method you use to perform this function will depend mostly on what type of material the walls are made of.
But as a good rule of thumb, you’ll want to mix some material appropriate soap or cleaner with some water, test a small patch on the wall to make sure that your mixture won’t strip off any paint or color, and then proceed to wash the walls in a circular motion.
If you come across any stubborn stains, you can use a sponge soaked with soap to gently scrub the area until the spot is removed.
You’ll want to avoid scrubbing too vigorously, however—because too much vigorous scrubbing can result in having paint peeled right off the walls.
3. Clean The Windows And Door
Cleaning the door and windows is another crucial maintenance function that you’ll need to perform to keep your booth looking clean and tidy.
This is especially important for modular in plant offices, as they tend to collect a lot of warehouse dust, dirt, and grime—and for vestibule entry shelters, as they serve as your first point of contact for customers entering your establishment.
For best results, use a soft cloth and commercial window cleaner to gently wash stains, grime, and dirt off of the windows.
Then, you’ll want to use a squeegee to wipe away excess water and cleaner, to ensure a brilliant, clear, shiny finish.
For the door, you’ll want to start with a light dusting.
Then, mix water with cleaner and lightly scrub the surface with a cloth or sponge.
You can dry it off with a heavy duty paper towel or with a clean shop cloth.
You can also use commercial fixture cleaner to make sure that the hardware is cleaned and polished.
4. Clean The Exterior
If you’re using air conditioned portable offices (or any type of modular office), you’re also going to need to clean them on the outside as well.
The outside walls of portable booth trailers, mobile cash stations, and security guard booths will get dirty, dusty, and grimy from exposure to the outside elements.
But they can also get stained, especially if your booth is located near or under trees or other foliage.
To start with, you can gently scrub the walls with water and a mild cleaner.
If this doesn’t work, you may need to consider power-washing the outside to ensure a thorough cleaning.
5. Maintain The Roof
Your booth trailer or modular office building will also require that you work to maintain the roof.
For best results, you should check on the status of the roof twice per year, and service/maintain it whenever it becomes necessary.
Here are some steps that you can take to maintain your roof and keep it in tip-top physical condition.
- Trim back trees from the nearby area so they don’t rub against the roof and cause long-term damage
- Remove snow or other weather-related debris
- Sweep the roof to remove branches, leaves, seeds, dirt, etc.
- Check for cracks or missing pieces of the roof where leaks may develop, or where repairs may be necessary
- Scrape off moss and scrub off mold. If need-be, you can power-wash the roof to remove mold that has already accumulated
- If you detect any damage to the roof, you can repair it by re-sealing it, caulking as needed, and re-painting it
- If need be, you can even replace shingles or pieces of damaged roofing with new pieces of roofing to ensure a proper, long-lasting repair
Preparing Your Booth For Inclement Weather
If your modular office or booth is located in an area where you tend to experience inclement weather, then taking measures to make sure that it’s secured and protected from the effects of this weather is an important step to maintaining its longevity and structural integrity.
First of all, if your modular office is located in an area exposed to high winds, you’ll want to secure it to ensure that it’s not blown off of its foundations.
Secondly, you’ll want to make sure that any trees, branches, or other potential hazards are removed from the area. If a tree (or even a heavy limb) were to fall onto your modular office as a result of high velocity winds, your structure could be severely damaged.
Next, assess any potential weak points in your structure. For example, you might want to fortify the windows to protect them from driving winds or hail.
Next, assess the potential for flood damage. If your modular office or construction booth is located in a low-water area, you may be better suited to move it to an area where flooding won’t be a threat.
Are there any gas tanks or gas lines connected to your modular office? If so, you should make sure that these hazards are secured so that you don’t accidentally end up with a gas leak as a result of high winds, hail, flooding, etc.
